And we are off......

On Saturday morning we woke up at 1am (yes, that's right) to set off for the V&A Waterfront and the cycle tour officially started at 2am when we left the Waterfront.

The first stay started off with the inevitable couple of punctures and we were welcomed along our route with some 'ex-cycle tour' girls with a scrumptious chocolate cake at the top of Helshoogte - which was devoured in seconds!

After the quick catch-up of energy, we continued down to the beautiful town of Franschoek - but on the other side waited the Franschoek Pass! The girls soldiered on and eventually conquered the 5km of steep hill and enjoyed the 7km breezy and speedy downhill the other side (it took them an hour and a half to complete!). The view was breathtaking and definitely worth the toil.

We finished off in Villiersdorp for the end of Day 1 after an 11 hour cycle. The team will be kindly hosted tonight by the Villiersdorp High School and the team were tired and keen to eat dinner and get to bed as soon as possible.
